Database and Maps

This database and a series of 7.5 minute topographical maps with trapping locations superimposed on them has been developed by Howard Shellhammer, Emeritus Professor of Biology at San Jose State University and Senior Associate at H. T. Harvey and Associates to be used by scientists, agency personnel, consultants, local governments, and interested laypeople. The database includes most all (over 95 percent, by Dr. Shellhammer's estimate), of the Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse trapping projects. During this first year of the database there will be only the database and the maps and users will have to shift from one to the other. Interactivity will come along soon, hopefully, as we find funds to provide that service. Should you know of other salt marsh harvest mouse trapping studies please send the appropriate information (i.e. the information categories in the database) and either a detailed description of where the trapping took place or a location superimposed on a map to Howard at 3722 Rosemar Ave, San Jose, CA, 95127-3561 or hreithro@pacbell.net. The same holds true for errors that you find and for the results of new trapping projects carried out by yourself or company or agency each year. Howard will prompt those of you known permit holders each Fall; he and SFEI personnel will update the database early in each year. This database is a product of Howard's initiative and the cooperation of most of the permitted salt marsh harvest mouse trappers; its continued success and hence its usefulness depends on that continued collaboration.
